As mentioned in a previous post, I am a huge fan of fellow artist and dressmaker Maria Elena Bishop of Romantic Creations Bridal.  Maria was born to create beautiful dresses for women.  She made her first dress for her doll, with a scrap from an aunts dress, at the early age of seven.  Her story is so fascinating and she is certainly one of Nashville’s best kept secrets!  It’s always so pleasurable to see Maria’s new creations.  I find myself drooling over the lushness of the fabrics she uses, as well as the uniqueness of each design and think it’s virtually impossible to pick a favorite dress.  Maria and I are kindred spirits when it comes to wedding gown aesthetics, as we both love dresses that have a vintage flair but are still very modern.  The awesome news is you don’t have to be a bride to have a dress made by Maria.  In addition to custom wedding dresses she also makes dresses for mother-of-the brides, flower girls and cocktail/evening dresses for special events…so you too can indulge in one of her stunning creations!

It’s always such a pleasure to be surrounded by other creatives.  In the beginning of 2011 I decided I wanted to become more aligned with other wedding vendors whom I believe are phenomenal at their craft and are like minded.  Then, a few weeks later,  I met Jennifer Faught, creator of  A Little Something Detailed, and we hit it off immediately.  I guess it really is true about “birds of a feather flock together!”  Jennifer’s creations are incredibly pretty and her personality is wonderful!  Below is a sampling of just a few of Jennifer’s beautiful, custom, paper creations.  Also, I asked Jennifer to share a little about herself, her business and a few points that may help brides when considering customized wedding invitations etc.    I hope you find this post helpful and enjoy what you see!

Tell us about Something Detailed. What is your goal as an event design company?

Almost 2 ½ years ago, a dear friend was getting married and asked me to help her with her wedding. We designed invitations, program, menus and everything. It was very different from my regular graphic design and marketing world, and I loved it! Ever since, I have been designing beautiful portfolios for brides and planners alike. I believe that everyone should be able to afford beautiful, custom paper details without having to use templates, print on their own or assemble layers of paper. I make it easy – from start to finish – creating, printing, assembling, and mailing your event’s custom paper details.

What are the things a bride should know when she has her first meeting for invitations or event details?

Color swatches, images of your décor and wedding ideas, 3 words to describe your wedding and an open mind.

What are some trends you are seeing right now?

Brides are choosing to design a beautiful pocket fold invitation for the bridal party and people who will be joining them at the rehearsal dinner and other wedding weekend activities. Then, we design a coordinating flat card invitation for guests only attending the wedding and reception. It’s a really great way to do something special and save some space in your budget for more wedding details.

What advice would you give a bride who is designing custom paper details for her wedding?

1) Come with an open mind. Collaboration really is the best way to design something great. 2) Your best memories will come from something that has been created just for you. Be different! Try not to get your mind set on a specific design you’ve pulled from the web. 3) Bring lots of pictures that you’ve saved that show your wedding theme – that aren’t invitations. 5) The most important…know what you want to spend or are willing to spend on your paper details. Budget is very important to know when designing your invitations – it can change the design – but not always the impact.

What should brides expect when having custom wedding invitations and event details designed?

Many times, having custom wedding invitations designed is the first time a bride has worked with a graphic designer, and they aren’t sure what to expect. Before any project, preparation is very important to have a successful final product. Looking through a designer’s portfolio will give you a good idea of their design esthetic – we’re all different! Designing custom invitations is definitely a process – it takes time – and multiple iterations to get it perfect, so don’t be discouraged if the first draft doesn’t fit your fancy. It will get there. Trust the designer and be clear with your expectations and changes.

Tell us about yourself.

I am a graphic designer by trade, with a degree in Marketing and Studio Art. I love food – yummy, foodie food. I also love to cook. I love weddings – everything about them. I cry even when I don’t even know the bride or groom. There is something so beautiful about that raw emotion and seeing the love and support from family and friends all at once. I love designing beautiful paper details, whether it is for a wedding or party, and seeing it all fall into place with cohesive theme. I love my pooch. My 3 pound Yorkie, Coco Chanel. He (yes, he!) sits in my lap while I work and keeps me company while we jam out to Carrie, The Black Keys or Jay Z.

A few month ago I had yet another first when I was given the opportunity to photograph Stacy & Michael’s traditional Serbian wedding.  Since the Serbian Church was in the process of being built, the wedding was held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.  Since Serbian weddings are filled with rituals and tradition it was the longest wedding ceremony I have ever photographed.  What was so amazing and awesome about the whole ceremony is the fact that I got to be up front the whole time and was able to really get all the key moments.  While initially I felt a little self conscious about being basically up at the altar(photographers usually have to stand toward the back of the church during the wedding ceremony), I quickly got over that when I started snapping away.  I hope I get another opportunity to photograph a wedding ceremony with so many rituals and traditions.  What an awesome day!  Here are just a few of my favorite photographs of the beautiful couple and their amazing wedding day!
